Cluster environment and node preparation

  3. Assign stable node identities. Give each node a unique, stable ID (hostname or label) and use it in logs and in the task queue so you can trace which node handled which task.
  4. Point all nodes to the same task queue. Whether you use Redis, a REST API, or another backend, every node must read and write tasks and state to the same system so failover and handover work.
  5. Automate rollout. Use Ansible, a shell loop, or CI to install and restart OpenClaw on each node so future updates are repeatable and auditable.

Multi-user permission isolation

When several team members share the same MeshMac cluster, isolate their workloads so one user’s processes and files don’t conflict with another’s. Run OpenClaw (or agent processes) under separate OS user accounts per developer or per team; give each user a dedicated home directory and, if needed, resource limits (e.g. CPU/memory caps). Use the same OpenClaw binary and config layout, but with user-specific env (e.g. different HOME, project paths, or queue prefixes) so tasks and state are namespaced. Document who has access to which nodes and how to add or revoke users so onboarding and offboarding are clear.

  • One OS user per team member (or per role) on shared nodes.
  • Separate home dirs and, if needed, queue key prefixes or workspaces so tasks don’t collide.

Configure health checks (e.g. a periodic ping or heartbeat from each node to the queue or a coordinator) and define retry and reassignment rules so failed or abandoned tasks are re-queued or claimed by another node. Optionally run a standby node or a small load balancer in front of Mac nodes so traffic can be shifted away from a failing host. Document how to add or remove nodes and how failover is tested (e.g. stop one node and confirm tasks continue on others).

  • Central task queue (Redis or API); all nodes use the same endpoint and credentials.
  • Every state change goes through the queue—no local-only state for shared tasks.
  • Periodic heartbeat or sync (e.g. every 1–5 min) so lag is bounded and dead nodes are detected.
